Dirty

Spent the Halloween weekend at Dumont.  Went up with Tim, Mitzi, Joe, Beth, and all the kids.  I was worried about how many people were going to be there and all the accidents and deaths I had heard about, but it was really crowded at all and it was so freaking fun.  I consider myself a "trail rider", but a weekend on the dunes may have changed my mind.

Boys dumont

We borrowed an 80 quad from a friend of Chris' and Kyle loved it.  It handled everything he needed to handle and then some.  Chris was like a kid racing around on the dunes and hauled ass at competition hill.

Comp hill

This little spec is Chris.

Chris dumont 2

Chris dumont 3

It is pretty cool checking out everyone's sand rails, quads, toy haulers, and all the toys everyone has.  Everyone was able to chill out and ride around.  We had 3 rhinos, 2 400s, a 110, 2 80s and 2 dirtbikes at camp so pretty much everyone was able to ride.

Dumont

This is another part of Dumont called the north pole.

North pole

You would think my son never played in a sand box before.

Sean dumont

It rained most of Saturday so that put a damper on the night riding.  Even comp hill wasn't that busy cause it was cold as hell.   But other than that we pigged out on crab legs, ribs, brats and all that other good stuff.  I was dirty as hell, but it was all good.  Everytime you washed your face you could feel all the dirt stuck to your face and there was like a pound of sand in my hair.  Beth said we are bringing shower caps next time.  All in all, a great time with great friends.  Next stop Sand Hollow.

Oh, and if you haven't already, get out there and vote!

It's a Good Day Today

Got to sleep in today until 0930 - that's when Beth called and woke me up.. lol.  Yes, my kids can sleep in that late.  Was totally motivated as soon as I got up , though.  I haven't even started my work day yet, so we will see how long that lasts.  Watched me some  Heroes - still confused more each week.  Please some one clarify some stuff for me!

Have a little trip planned this weekend with some friends, so the girls went to buy the food.  Let me tell you we will be eating good this weekend, BUT we forgot to buy beer.  I like beer and I can't believe I forgot that shit.    So we still have to buy some tasty adult beverages.  I'm excited to get away from the city, ride some sand dunes and get dirty!

In all my motivation, I did my hair.  That's right, shocker folks.  It's not in the hot ass pony tail I put it up in. Got a little curl goin on.   Drove my ass down to the library.  I apparently need to utilize it cause when Sean asked what a library was I told him it was a place with a lot of books you can borrow and he said, "Oh, Barnes and Noble."  My four year old for you.  But I was there to do more important things.

I voted

Kyle was fascinated by voting and I explained how important it is to vote, how long it took for woman to get the right to vote, the changes you can make by voting and all that other good stuff that comes along with it.   He was totally into it.  Then I explained that he had 9 more years to wait it out.  At least he'll be prepared.  So, that is my public service announcement for today.  If you are fortunate enough to have a place to early vote, get off this computer and get down there now.  Take your kids, don't comb your hair, go in your pjs.. just go vote.

No Coffee

I ran out of coffee!  I can't believe it.  I don't run out of coffee.  It's a staple, like milk.  And it's the only thing I know how to make.  lol.  I am sitting here all tired and cranky wondering, "Why is it taking my boys so long to eat a bowl of cereal."  and "Why do you guys keep smacking each other?"  and "Why are you guys standing on the barstools."  Why is this stuff irritating me?  Oh yeah, No. Coffee.  Well, I have to work early and I know there's coffee there.  Thank god for overtime. Ha!

This weekend is jammed.  Orthodontist (I didn't realize there was gonna be this many appts. for braces.)  Going to do a little hiking.  My attempt at some exercise and taking some photos.  And two Halloween parties.  One my foster care agency is hosting.  It'll give us a chance to meet more families and some of their children.  And the other is a scavenger hunt.  Never did one of these so it should be pretty cool.  We are required to bring a video camera, but we don't own one.  Will digital camera work?  What are you weekend plans?

Typepad went a little berzerk there so I am gonna attempt to post these again.  Mr. Kyle with his purple belt.

Finally, I reason to call this blog ScrapCouture

I wiped the dust off the tables and put everything away so I could actually walk through my scrapbooking room.  And I made these -

THESE 3 A

and this-

BEAUTIFUL

baby steps...  printed out tons of pictures so I can finally put together a mini of my trip to the P.I.  That should keep me busy.

In my Itunes obsession, I have found a fabulous podcast called Fosterpodcast.com.  If you have ever been interested in foster parenting, check out their podcast or their blog, there is a link on the sidebar.  They are so funny and have a plethora of info on their site.

Still have to get costumes for halloween.  We will be in Dumont with some friends, so it should be fun.  And no, Mitzi!  I am not dressing up.

Anyways, til the next time I get myself together.. later.

Hangin' Tough

It's been a long week.  I've been on dayshift all week training on our new CADS system that's going to make our lives more difficult, but the upper echelon doesn't care, but that is for another post.

I am not made for dayshift.  Seriously.  Going to bed at 9 pm and up at O dark 30.  I am getting plenty of sleep and it is nice being home at night, but I feel more tired working days than I do with 3 hours of sleep, up at 0700 and working til 0100.  I don't know what it is, but I shall be back on swings starting tomorrow... oh how I miss the night.

Anyways, watching my 9 yr old and 3 other children 5 and under and I keep thinking about how much more eventful it will be when we have a house full of kids.  Still working on the licensing.  I keep thinking that if I was going through the county I would have my license already!  Anyways.

Don't hate, but tonight I have a date with these fine ass men tonight baby~

Holy Balls Batman!

Omg!  It's really a post since, since forever!  Been super busy lately.. Here's the quick, catch up

- I now have a 9 year old who has braces.  At first he wanted them, then he hated them, now he is learning to live with them.   He is NOT liking brushing his teeth for 10 mins and he thinks that if he doesn't eat, he doesn't have to brush his teeth.  Seriously.  I wish I had braces, but I will just have to live vicariously through him.

- Halfway done with my foster parenting classes.  Jammed 5 classes in this month.  I think it has really helped my bio-parenting  skill tremendously.  I'm learning a lot of new skills and I think its helping out my family.  It seeems like its gonna be so much longer just to finish the classes.  I still have to get my TB test, my car inspected, AND get my house stuff in order, but I think I am very excited.

- In the meantime, Chris and I have been looking at houses on the weekends.  We have been looking for a few months now and put 3 bids in.  The first wsa amazing, but they didn't even acknowledge my bid.  The second, we changed our minds on.  And the third, they accepted someone else's bid.  So the search continues.  Will have to rent out the house I live in now, eventually, but I think that is still a waysssss out.

- Getting a new CADS (computer aided dispatch) system next month.  Have been training on that and will have to train others.  They are really rushing things with this system and there are so many policies & procedures that need to be worked out.  Not to mention all the bugs the program still has.  So we have be prisoners of work the last month.  working 3- 20 hours of overtime a week and if we are lucky we get a day off.

- Trying to catch up on the shows.. Anyone watching FRinge?  I caught last weeks episode and was so confused, but I have been informed that I missed the first 3 shows.. That may explain some stuff.

- Haven't scrapped a damn thing.  Haven't gotten out and taken pictures  either.  Really need to get the ball rolling, it's starting to mentally mess with me..  Have been blowing my wad on ITUNES!  Amy! you didn't tell me how addicting that is!

Well, I am gonna do better about posting.. Starting TODAY!

later!

I'm Baaaacckkk!

Phew!  Well, I survived and it's good to be back.  Feels like I've been gone forever.  It's back to the daily grind of getting no sleep, getting Kyle ready for school, hanging with Sean all day, then to work.  Working overtime.. hee hee..

Anyways, I have a little recap of my trip, if you are interested.  We hung out in Angeles City for a few days and almost as soon as we put our bags down, we were off the Clark Air Base.  Or, what was left of Clark.  I already knew that it was half rundown and left to rot after Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991, so I wasn't surprised by what I did see.  The other half is used by the Philippine Air Force and resort like housing.

Philippines058a

Philippines059a

The jungle wins!  anyways, we flew to Cebu a few days later.  I must say, flying is the way to go.  We used to take a ferry down to Cebu from Manila and it was like an 18hour boat ride.  An hour after taking off we were in Cebu!

Finally got to my mom's town and we decided to hike our way up the mountain, for old times sake.  We hiked it in an hour and partially in the dark, so we did pretty good, I must say.

Philippines109a

Philippines111a

It was humid as hell.  No lies.  I felt like I could grab it, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be.  Here's a pic of the house my mom grew up in.

Philippines195a

We actually stayed here for a week.  They just got electricity a few years ago so there was actually a fridge now.  My grandfather was born in this house and right now my cousin and her 7 kids live here.  Philippines244a

This is my Lola with her children.  The last two on the right are her stepkids.

Philippines373a

My Lola with some of her great grandkids (not the two older guys, those are grandkids).

No indoor plumbing in the house, which was really difficult Sean.  He had all kinds of stomach problems and really wasn't having the whole toilet in a shack thing.  I couldn't hang with the bugs and got a few really good mosquito bites, but the kids didn't get bit one time.  So not fair.

Philippines312a

It rained everyday, but it is rainy season - it was great cause we never get rain here.  Philippines305a

Kyle wasn't too keen on the cock fighting.  He did get all the 411 he needed from my uncle who raises them for the sport (if you can call it that).  I refused to let my kids watch cause I think it's pretty f*cked up myself.  But here is my uncle's cock..lol - I'm so funny.

Philippines188a

The shopping was crappy.  Well, the clothes shopping was.  Everyone there is tiny, tiny, tiny.  I couldn't find anything in the market that would fit someone my size.  So did some mall shopping, which was okay.  All the brand names, which are the same price as they are here.  Did get a beautiful guitar for Chris for way cheaper than his first one I bought.

Like all vacations - good times and bad times.  Sean hated it.  He begged for his dad everyday starting from day 3, so that really got on my freaking nerves.  And he didn't have milk for two weeks  cause all we had was powdered milk so he wasn't very happy.  Kyle did great.  He totally bonded with all our cousins - and there were tons of us.  The kids played cards, alot and did play all there DS's, PSPs, IPODs.

It is good to be home, but I you can't beat this view -Philippines191a

If you want to see some more pics, click here. They aren't all on there, but there was like 800 plus pics. I wonder if I can scrap them all??

Kumusta!

Hello everyone,

I'm here after a long ridiculously long flight. I was very surprised that the kids did as well as they did.  I was worried Sean would get sick, but he was really into the flight.  I must say that PSPs, Nintendos, and Ipods do help.  I barely got any sleep and was so uncomfortable.  I don't remember the flights being that uncomfortable and cold as hell.  I don' t think there is heat on planes.  Everything went well and we made it to Manila @ oh dark 30.

I could feel the humidity as soon as I hit the ramp and I seriously thought I was gonna die with all the humidity.   Went from 4 % humidity to 90 %.  I actually don't feel as hot as I do in Vegas.  My face looks all broke out acne ridden, but other than that I don't feel like it's that bad.

I've eaten a ton of fish already and it was so cool to go to an open air market.  I really wish Chris was with me to experience it all.   I bought 4 pounds of giant prawns for less than $10 this morning! Can't wait to eat them.  Did some shopping today at a mall.  For the brand name stuff, Guess, The Body Shop, Sketchers, the prices are equivolent in pesos as the dollars.  Found some sketchers I fell in love with, but they were about about $60 bucks.  Forget that shit.  Bought a cute little Amy Butler tote for $6! woo hoo.

Going to Cebu tomorrow.  Worried about this flight.  It's a small plane and I don't do small planes.  Seriously would rather take a ferry.   Anyways...  Miss you guys.  won't have internet til I get back next week, so I'll talk at you later!

love,

michelle

2 More Days

I am totally scatterbrained and need to get everything finalize before my trip to the P.I.  I just keep thinking, "if you forget something, you might be fucked."

It seems like its chaos around my house.  Chris and I celebrated our 9 year anniversary on the 20th and decided to buy ourselves some new furniture.   We got a fabulous chocolate brown leather couch and it was delivered this morning.  Will have to get a new rug cause when my ass jumped into it,  my couch slid across the tile.  Yes, I am blaming the tile.

Got my shot and still need to pick up Kyle's meds.  He still needs to test for his next taekwondo belt (today) wish him luck.  Have to finish packing and rechecking everything I packed.  Want to finish my little travel journal so I can do a little scrapping in the hut baby.  I wonder if I can crochet while I'm the plane.  I think I could whip out a few blankies in the 16 hours we will be flying.

Working on  a huge project that I won't be able to work on while away, but I can't wait to share w/ everyone once it's off the ground.  I am so excited and proud of it - and it's not scrapbooking related, go figure.

I didn't want to take my laptop w/ me cause it's heavy and they use 220 in the P.I. so I bought an ipod.  Aimee, I've joined the rest of humanity and have been a downloading fool for the last few days.  I even have some movies for the boys on it.  Just working on converting some movies that I already own.

Anyways, hope everyone is having a great summer, will see ya in 2 weeks!

Dirt

Went out to the Logandale trails on Saturday.  We got a little lost for a little while, but we made it!  Got a later start than I wanted, but it was fun and worth the drive.

Some of the trails are hard dirt, gravel, but mostly sand.  I was worried that Kyle's quad wouldn't have the power to handle the trails, but it did fine.  It didn't do to well on the dunes, but hell, neither did the Rhino.

011a

The trails led to a ton of dunes and Chris got to play around for awhile on them.  So did Sean.  He wasn't digging the helmet after awhile and just thought he was in a giant sandbox.

I will definitely go back, but not til the summer is over because by 1 p.m.  we were dying.  I didn't even want to stop anymore and drink water and chill.  I just wanted to get the hell out of the sun that was attacking us fiercely.  I did get a nice glove tan, though.  I know, don't hate.

Well, gotta go... Sean needs bathroom assistance. I love parenting.

Blankets

here are some of the blankets I made during May that kept me out of the scraproom.

This one was for Kyle.  His whole room is camoflauge.

Kyle_blanket

This is Sean's.  I didn't like how the colors worked out together, but his room his Cars so I used the colors of Lightning McQueen.

Sean_blanket

This one I made for my friend, Joan, for her birthday.

Joan_blanket

This is my fave.  Love how the colors worked out together.

Blue_green_blanket

This was one I loved in one of my crocheting books.  I initially didn't like how it came out with all the colors, but it's growing on me.

Kilim_blanket

I get really bored while crocheting row after row so unlesas I use lots of colors I start to lose interest. Which gave me a wild hair up my ass to teach myself to knit.  Well, one hour later I finally casted on.  It was so hard.  I still haven't made it past that, but I am gonna keep trying!  Leslie!  You have a mission.

Got Madonna's and Duffy's new CD's.  Thanks Sandy!  I haven't listened to a Madonna CD since Like a Prayer (I think) and I really like it.  But my new favorite CD is One Republic.

Other news.  As some of you know adopting children out of foster care has been something I have been trying to make a reality.  I contacted Olive Crest foster care agency about a month ago and we have an appointment on the 19th with a case worker!  We've been finishing up our application and still have to figure out where to store our butcher knives.. hmmm.  So wish us luck!  I am very excited for this new chapter of our lives.

Other than that.. just been figuring out what the hell to pack for our trip to the Philippines in 17 days.  Lots of Off , that's for sure.  I'm excited to see relatives I haven't seen for 18 years.  But really all I want is for my Lola not to tell me I'm fat again, so I got to spin my ass off the next few weeks..lol.

Until next time peeps!

Bad Blogger!

holy crap I dropped the ball with the whole blogging thing!  I really have just been lazy as hell.  Sooo, where do I begin?

Just been chilling and working and crocheting my ass off.  I  kinda put the scrapping aside for a little bit to crochet away.  I think in the month of May I made 5 blankets..Yup 5.  I will take photos of them and put them up in the next few days.   Still haven't busted out my knitting stuff that I will learn  one of these days.

Yarn_2

Got a few new toys last week and have been trying to get out and use them.

Quads

009a

007a

I really, really, really love my Rhino.  Or as Sean likes to call it, "me and mommy's quad."  Riding is way more fun than I ever thought it would be.  I should've gotten the bigger one, but it does everything I need it to do.  I even caught a little air at the dunes last week.  Kyle got a 50 since he'd never ridden before and just in one day, we can see that there isn't a lot of power.  He couldn't get up really steep hills and got stuck in the sand a few times, but until he masters it, he's stuck with it.  Chris loves his quad and says it's way faster than he thought it would be.  He's already making plans to go out with a few of his friends and I am trying to find every atv trail in the SW US.

Loving this site.  It's totally inspiring me to cook, well, bake.  Everything looks so good.

Sad that most of my shows are almost over.  Still have Hell's Kitchen and Top Chef.  So sad that Antonia got sent home.  Chris was pissed.  I think he has a secret crush on her..lol.  That's inspiring me to cook too.

Did a few pages.  First one was my entry for Laurie's circle journal of inspirational women.

Vaso2

This one is for a canvas swap we did at work.  We had to use our person's favorite and least favorite colors.  Jen's was dark green and orange.  I used  a technique with foil.  You crinkle it up and flatten it back out and paint it and it gives a nice technique.

Jen_canvas

I will do better with the updates! have a good one peeps!

My new idea

There are many drunk drivers out there.  In this town it's really bad.  You can drink all day long.  All day, every day.  There is no last call.  It's part of why insurance is so high out here, too.  Summer is here and everyone wants to drink and then get into the car and drive home.  Or, attempt to drive home.  And if they don't make it home it's usually because we are fortunate enough to pull them over before they wreck into someone.  When they do crash into people, someone usually dies and 99 percent of the time it ISN'T the drunk driver.

Since the drunk driver walks away 99% of the time, my idea is this:  Everyone get drunk and drive cause if you do crash into someone you won't get hurt and they won't be hurt either.  Remember, drunk drivers never get hurt.

Case in point.  Friday we had a Saturn ram head on to a semi.  Head on people!  And he had minor injuries.  Yes, he was drunk.  See, if you had don't that sober, you'd be dead.

Later on Friday,  drunk kid runs a red light and hits a poor, innocent, SOBER driver.  Sober driver dies.  Kid is fine.  His life is ruined pretty much, but justly so.

On a serious note.  It just pisses me off that you can't even just drive home nowadays with some idiot thinking he's okay to drive and ruins your life.  There are so many options out there for those of us who do like a tasty adult beverage every now and then.   There are no excuses.  None.  So, for all you responsible, sober drivers - thank you and be careful!

Mother's Day and Birthday Recap

Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful moms out there!  Celebrate in style!  Here's some flowers for you

19a

Thank you for all the birthday wishes!  I had a great time, even though I had anxiety about the whole thing.  Chris tells me he wants to take me somewhere nice and we have to dress up.  Dress up?  I don't dress up - except for weddings.  I am so stressed out because Vegas isn't really a "dressy" kind of place.  People wear jeans and shorts everywhere.  Plus I don't like to wear dresses - except to weddings.  So, luckily I still had Darcie's black and white dress.  (I don't think she'll ever get it back). It's been to Mexico and Chicago, very well travelled.   Anyways, we got dressed up despite my pleas.

My_birthday

So we dropped the boys off with my sister to spend the night and hang with their cousins and we heaed to The Venetian for dinner.  Chris kept telling me that we were gonna eat then have to go get my present.  He opted for Enoteca San Marcos.  It's one of three Mario Batali restaurants in the casino. Of course, there are people in jeans, but there were people in suits and stuff.  I am no fancy person.  The food was good.  I guess he is known for his cured meats and we got these proscuitto balls that were salty as hell.  By the time I had a second ball, I couldn't eat anymore.  It wasn't bad, just too salty for me.  I then had a caprese salad.  The tomatoes were stewed and I thought that was weird, but mmmm, mmmm, mmm it was so good.  The mozzarella had pesto and pine nuts on it and it was yummmmy!  Chris had artichoke with flattened ricotta slices and that was even better.  Chris ordered linguine and I had flattenend pork chops with braised escarole and it was the freaking bomb.  It was so good.  I think escarole is my new fave veggie.  Reminds me of bok choy.  I made Chris order dessert cause it was my birthday so he went all out and got cheesecake gelati.  Yeah.  all out.  He didn't even eat it all.  Whatever.  I ate mine.  I had Caramel Banana sundae.  It had bananas, ice cream, caramel and banana nut bread balls.  If I could've gotten away with licking the glass.  I would have.

Well, Chris gave me my present.  We were going to see Phantom of the Opera.  I was so happy.  It's one of the few I haven't seen yet.  The theater was so cool and the chandelier effects were awesome.  We had 3rd row seats right in the middle, they were lucky I didn't get up there and start singing and dancing.  We actually had to look behind us to see the phantom hanging from the chandelier.  It was awesome to finally get to see the play in real life.  The Phantom was not that great, but who can replace Michael Crawford?  Christine Daae was good and the dude that played Raul was fabulous.  It was such a wonderful night and I had a great time.  Even though I didn't get my lens, lol, this was way better.

Until next time!

Don't Know Where The Week Went

Damn! This week flew by!  Been trying to get some crafty goodness together and I have found that I have put scrapping on the backburner.  I did manage to get one thing done.  I decided to make a little journal to document the 33 rd year of my life.  There really isn't much that stands out for your 33rd birthday.  I guess you just ride the time til you turn 35, then 40.  So I made this little journal

Me_at_33

Nothing fancy, I figured I could take a monthly pic and do some journaling on the 10th of every month.

While scrapping was on the backburner, I had no problem buying stuff cause I don't have enough, right?  Got these yummies.

Stamps

I've been busy crocheting my ass off.  Making a blanket for my friend, Joan, who happens to share the same birthday as me!  I think I have carpel tunnel now.  lol.  It was nice to bust out the hooks and threads. Of course I will burn myself out and get right back to scrapbooking.  Does anyone else do this?
I'm happy that this crazy cat is FINALLY using this -

Snow

It has taken about 3 weeks, but she finally (sometimes) understands that this is her little bed and my chair and my blankets don't belong to her.

Lost 3 pounds this week!  Woo Hoo!  Now down to 167!  5 more pounds and I will have lost 20! Other fabulous news, my wonderful son, Kyle, just got accepted to the Gifted and Talented Program!  That has had me happy for days now.  Kyle has ADHD and this year has been the hardest year at his school so far.  He has a horrible teacher, who knows the problems we have been having with his meds and EVERY THING he does, he gets in trouble for.  She even tried to keep him from testing, so when I got the test results and he scored a 98 (an automatic placement in GATE) I wanted to drive to her house and shove the results right up her ass.  I really feel vindicated.  I'm just glad he gets out of her class 75 mins on Thurs and Fri.

Anyways, I have to go tend to my 3 year old.  He is screaming how he doesn't like me at the top of his lungs because I told him he had to get off the PSP.  Isn't that sweet?
